Do Swallowtail Mirrors fit a 79 Golf?

Do the steel mirrors off a swallow tail fit stright on to a 79 Golf or are the holes for the mirrors in the door differnt?

The driver's side had a remote mirror as standard & a flag mirror for the passenger.

All of my golf's have had this, even the one owner standard one's I've collected.

Yep, 3 holes, (maybe more depending on the rust.)

Both styles have two mounting holes, Same spacing. There's a third larger hole in between them about the size of a 10c piece for the remote cables to pass through on my '79s.

The manual mirrors base plate will cover the hole. They should all be interchangeable although I don't know if the early golfs had the third hole. I guess you could drill it if you had to have the remote mirrors.

One of my '79s has the remote mirrors on both sides.
