What's a close door job?
If Its what I think it is (a quick slap up paintjob with the interior/windows still in the car) then I'm doing quite the same thing now and am looking forward to what people say about this.
so couldn't be happier with the way the car is turning out with regards to the the mechanical side of things and interior but the paint on the car is quietly annoying me.
the body itself is straight with no significant dents and any structural rust was repaired when building the car
the paint itselt has surface rust which i think in time will get worse, which is why i'm considering attending to sometime in the future
just after some tips, advice, costs and any do's and dont's when it comes to DIY paint jobs, so feel free to share!
for those of you who don't know, this is what i'm starting with

it just means you dont do the engine bay, inside the door jams etc etc, basically paint the car as it sits...but if i did it i would remove the glass (except the windscreen - as it was already repaired) and all trims and rubbers...would also spend time preping it with wet and dry and rust converting where necessary

I painted a car at home and wrote it all up. There's a few tips that would probably worth your reading.

it's all about being prepared, not taking short cuts, having lots and lots of time, and patience to go with it. Cleanliness is they key, and lots and lots of wetsanding!
I've done two mk 1's, and learnt so much by doing them. It's a massive learning curve, so don't expect it to be perfect first go. If it's going to be the same colour, doing it with the doors shut is going to be OK. just make sure everything is adequately masked for overspray.
That, and set aside twice aslong as you'll think it'll take to do it, to actually do it. Wet sanding can be be very very tiring! and bad weather can delay a project to no end.
Hope you're committed!![]()
ive done it before and it turned out surprisingly well. i was a little worried about areas id masked around, door locks etc. but they turned out fine. sounds like youre going a little further than that anyway. should be fine.
