There are heaps of VW/Audi motors around to fit into a Mk1, not sure how hard you have been trying. Try Golf Loon for a start.
Why would you bother to put in a different brand motor into one?? May as well save the fitting costs and buy a nissan or whatever.
Not being rude and sorry if I sound abrupt but I cant see the sense in trying to fit a different brand of motor. Its not a Volkswagen then.
And also its very easy to overpower a 29 year plus old car.

the right 20v turbo motor from a mk4 gti/audi a3 would be much easier to install instead of custom mounts for an sr20/sr20det.

i'm not saying dont go for it. there are a couple of shops in the uk that do hayabusa (1300 honda motorbike) engines into the mk1. they fly but once again there's a lot of fab work.

there is a vast array of potential engine transplants from under the volkswagen/audi umbrella.

an sr20det would be cool though very tunable in australia

Steve, in the blue title bar at the top of your screen is a search feature.

Use it like google, type in Mk1 Golf conversion engine into the advanced search section and read away.

Do the same in google and we will see you in a few weeks

Plenty of swops are possible and have been well documented. If you want a jap engine, get a jap car. VW make great engines.

dude, remember...... with $30,000+ in that conversion.....

just pointing out reality of the 400hp 20v-t swap, obviously with 400hp you have to stop and turn, the complete package.....

Yea I know Dom. But if you are going to put in a SR20 [assumably turbo, then what the heck is the point??] you'd be looking for some decent numbers.

My point was 400HP 20VT is achievable, and etc.

Here's the Poms' info on conversions, although a Hayabusa bike engine conversion has also been done (try YouTube for a peep)

    Hope it helps
