    Dashboards TO FIT Mk1

Hey all, I want to put a new dash in my Mk1. I dig the plastic ones with the two square gauges (tacho and speedo, not clock) what are my options?
-What cars do they come out of?
-How easy are they to install (e.g. do the accessory plugs, heater controls, metal braces match etc..)?
-What should I expect to pay?

Hi mate, I am guessing you mean this dash?

If yes, it is out of the later model Mk1 Golfs and most (if not all afaik) Cabriolets.

I will have one available for sale in a few months with everything needed to swap if you are interested?

You can get different spec mk1 dashboards.
think plastic ones are usually only available in the mk1 style from the south african models (hard top) or the covertible as in the picture above.
They're pretty hard to come by and you would expect to pay atleast $500 for one.
I do have one in my mk1 and they look way better than the sloppy grand canyons you see kickin around. great upgrade but yeah pretty expensive and very hard to come by in Aus, importing one may be easier

They are not that rare, pretty much every cabby in Australia has one of these dashes. There are many wrecked ones around so you just need to call some wreckers and stuff and it should come up trumps.

Ill hopefully be buying a wreck shortly and I am not into the later dashes so ill be selling it (and for less than $500 too...)

btw: Usually the UK imports have these dashes too as they were very popular in the UK.

I'm talking a plastic version of the original hatch dash, not the cabby ones. these are hard to come by, sorry for the confusion

Theres not that many wrecked cabrios in wreking yards Cam.
The cars are too old for most of the big yards and were squashed years ago, plus there were never that many.

The best way to do that dash swop is to get the fusebox and wiring loom from the donor car, also make sure you get all the plastic inserts etc.

I have one up in the roof somewhere that I`d part with for $200 complete, or a blue one for $150.

The other option is a Mk2 dash, again you need it all complete and need to shave a tiny bit off the front edge.

Here is a pic of my old Mk1 16v with the Mk2 Dash in.

Why not import one of these from SA, they look hot in the cabrios...
