As long as 60mm is outside diameter, inside diameter would be spot on 57-58mm (2.25")

Got it! The 60mm is outside diameter. So I guess it's perfect then!

I managed to get a temporary exhaust welded up in order to get on with the project until I've gathered the cash for a new exhaust. It looks ****ty and it goes from 58mm to 42mm. So I guess it's quite restrictive...

When that was done I fired up the car in order to tune the carbs a bit. But... A horrible screeching metal-on-metal sound from the pulley/alternator/waterpump area ruined that plan. The car ran for less than a minute and left a pool of water underneath the waterpump. I'm guessing it's KIA...

So is there any great waterpump upgrades I should make will I'm at it.

    The Danish mk1

So... How bad is this? It makes this horrible screeching noise and I can't figure out where it comes from...

Any ideas? If I turn the engine by hand I can't hear it...

Edit: could it be the starter?

It's definitely something rubbing against a metal plate.

Check if it's coming from the gearbox end. Sounds like the flywheel is rubbing against the metal plate that keeps the dirt out under the gearbox.

If it's really hard to work out where the sound is coming from try the old trick of holding a metal tube or pipe against your ear. The other end rests against the engine. Keep moving it until you hear it the loudest, that will be where the noise is coming from.

Thanks! I'll give the tube a try!

I thought it was something going on with the torque converter in the auto box but the car moves freely when engaging drive and reverse. So I don't I don't think that is the problem.

It does seem like the problem is around the belts... But I have to "tube-test" it to be sure. I removed the V-belt and spun each pulley one by one without any noticeable noise. Do I dare turning the engine over without the V-belt attached to rule out the alternator and water pump?

You can run it without the V-belt attached. Just make sure you don't run the engine for more than a few minutes as it will heat up pretty quick. And don't disturb the toothed belt.

    Cheers

The noise is still there when the v-belt is removed...
Currently believing/hoping that the inner timing belt cover is the cause.

But... How the hell do I remove it? Do I need to remove the timing belt? It seems to be stuck behind the intermediate cam sprocket... But there shouldn't be any bolts there. At least from what I can tell...
