Great mix of old and new mate, and she looks so clean! A white GTi is always a winner IMO, hope you have some fun with it
Well after a 4-5 month hiatus up on axle stands, my gti is back on the road. I managed to snap a shot of it with all 4 wheels on the ground AND external to the garage. Such a momentous occasion, I just had to share. And its about time I started a thread anyway..
So far it seems the hard work has paid off with all mods working well. These include a rebuilt ABF bottom end with Wossener forged 9:1 pistons (the original reason it was taken off the road), a reco-ed 02A\02J hybrid box with peloquin diff and mkv shifter and cables, a custom hydraulic clutch setup, a couple more gauges, a few exhaust mods so I can get out of the driveway without scraping like mad. The clutch kit I bought came with a 30% lightened flywheel, that's probably the only mod I'm not liking that much. But all things considered, I'm pretty damn happy with how its going.
Behold my ABF turbo mk1 gti!

Great to see a few pics of your lovely gti mate - I was sure surprised at the nats track day to find not 1 but 2 turbo mk1's there on the day - awesome! (I guess I'm not counting my turbo diesel in that mix )
Looking at your engine bay shot, really does a good job of convincing me to move the battery in the cabby.... mk1 + turbo + FMIC = not much room for anything else
Would love to hear more about your clutch setup - I'm considering an 02a setup for the cabby.

Sweeeeeet
looks great!
What management are you running?
Hey mate, I was surprised to see so many mk1's at the track day let alone 3 turbo-ed ones! Here's the clutch setup, that's a T4 master. Let me know when you're ready to tackle it, it works really well. I made sure all of the pivot points, ratios and the spring match a mk4 golf setup and it feels pretty much the same.
Its off its head I just have to get it idling a bit better with the ISV, but other than that its going really well. I really should investigate fitting wider wheels, it can be quite a handful!Originally Posted by alex g
