    So fixed this the morning after before i left for home and havent had any issues since! Touch wood!

    Recently had some really hesitant acceleration, and at a stand still or whilst clutch engaged, idle is rough and drops to stall levels or it stalls without constant use of the accelerator... Acceleration through the gears at the bottom of each gear is hesitant and jerky too. Would i be correct in saying its a fuel related issue? Maybe the carbs need a re-jet? Or dodgy pump?

    What you guys reckon??

    Definitely a jetting issue mate. Or ignition timing, but likely jetting with the IDFs. My dellortos have the same issues, I've just learnt to live with it haha

    Ahhhh okayyy does yours stall/engine cuts out or get really close if youre at the lights and off the accelerator?

    I might try the re-jetting route and see how i go! Cheers man!

    There are a number of contributors to the symptoms you're describing. When you brake to slow for a light, the vacuum booster will release vacuum which it has stored in order to assist you. Once you're stopped at the light, the booster will draw vacuum out of the motor to replenish itself. Additionally, a high duration cam like yours will make less vacuum at idle to begin with. These two things can cause a stall when you get hard on the brakes due to the lack of vacuum pressure. They certainly have in the past for me.

    Jetting will solve the surging and bogging down issues to some degree, but there will always be a vacuum issue at idle due to the cam. Try advancing the cam using a vernier/adjustable cam pulley or setting a higher idle. A high idle will however cause large backfires when shutting the engine off suddenly if the exhaust is still hot (coming off the freeway or hooning etc.)

    So a lil bit of an update, fixed the problem which did have a large connection to the vacuum mentioned above! Thankyou Browneye!

    Turns out the vacuum hose from the booster was quite loose and leaking heavily! :/ tightened her up and stuck a thinner clamp on as the previous was a lil too wide and contributed to it slipping off. Drove around the block, and the braking built up a storage of vacuum once again! Schweeeeet!

    Probably could still go with a tune but now, a very minor tweak more than anything! Winning!

    Looked so good at the Nats. I still think you should have got best MK1.

    Yeahh ive been starting to think the relay could be bung? Ill have a look at the fuse box diagram and see which one the fuel relay is.

    How come you werent at the nats Nick? Was looking forward to seeing the caddy mate!

    Thanks Paul! Was such a good day out, good seeing old faces and meeting new ones!

    Lot of work still to get it up to scratch but getting there! So many nice cars on Sunday!

    So a little bit of an update, not much but its something! Picked up some black cloth mk1 gti seats the other week and put them in today.

    As much as i loved the tan vinyl, a very period correct look (and quite comfy), im slowly but surely starting to convert the interior to black. Something about black interiors i absolutely love!





    They feel amazing and hug alot more! hugs are always appreciated, espesh with winter on the way
