    further review on hottuning

well i've put about 1000kms of holiday driving on the hottunings, including some offroading (see the "what did you fix on your mk1 today" thread.)

i have to say they just keep surprising me. they have settled a little bit and the shocks seem to have loosened up a little, and the ride is quite comfy indeed. with a good load on, there was very little scrubbing (only over BIG bumps at high speed) and though the photo doesnt do my lowering justice (parked on a very cambered curbside) when static on level road the tyre was sitting just inside the arch at the back.

the handling also improves - more pliability means the hadling over bumbs is getting better and the height just makes body roll a distant memory.

so, for anyone that only drives their mk1 on the odd weekend, and you've put some hottunings in - make sure you "bed them in" a bit before you make a decision about them.

FYI - i also did a lot of driving on properly rough dirt roads - this probably equalled 1500km worth of sealed road driving as far as the suspension is concerned

    I've got to ask.

Where did you get a set of V3's for $2500? New or 2nd hand?

    Back on topic

Having dealt with a few hottuning coilover's, I can only say if all your chasing is a look ie. belly aching the car then you can't go past the HT's for value.

But if your expecting good ride quality or plan on track use, then no way.

They feel like riding around on wooden block's & don't soak up very much at all.

I reckon you'd be better off buying a set of Koni adjustables & eibach spring's hands down anyday of the week.

My old beater had better ride qualitie's on Koni adjustable yellow's & Jamex spring's with 3/4's of a coil cut off the front!

    I can't comment on the other brand's like Weitec & FK's, but I've been in car's with Biltein, DMS's, KW's, Koni's, H&R's & HT's.

I'm not saying KW's are the best, cause I have V3's on my mk1, as I would have preferred Koni coilovers, but they stopped making them unfortunately so I went with the next best thing in my price range.

You can't even compare the KW's with the DMS's, as the DMS's are on a different level!
