    clutch slip help

    hey got a 1976 mk1 with a 1.8l 8v with the 1.6 gearbox/ 190mm clutch what should i do to stop clutch slip.
    i dont want to put a new clutch and it still slips, as im about the but twin side drafts on.
    i need some advice!

    if it slips, the clutch is worn, or the cable is not adjusted properly.
    Ive also seen a bad seal cause a oil leak and get on the clutch, which will make it slip. I think Pete had that problem.

    You might not want to put a new clutch in, but it sounds like you're going to have to! Oil on the friction plate will contaminate the material, meaning the clutch will still need replacing either way.

    You're going to have to separate the motor and box just to find out what's going on in there.

    Once you've got it all apart and fixed the root cause, you may as well do the clutch anyway.

    Whole job can take as little as 2 hours, best to allow a day if it's your first attempt.

    If you've still got a 4 speed box it's pretty easy just to unbolt it all and pull it of the end of the motor.

    no point putting the twin carbies on with a slipping clutch, how are you going to rip skids?

    once you've got the box off you may as well give everything a once over...i'm in the process of doing it now myself
