020 gearbox reverse switch

Hi, im looking at getting my new mk1 golf back on the road. Ive got a few things left to do but the reverse switch for the gearbox is confusing me.
Ive got the switch shown here, number 1, http://workshop-manuals.com/volkswag...lf-mk1-592.png but ive got no wiring for it. Im thinking its because its a non standard gearbox so it never had the wiring for this switch.

Whats the easiest way i can get the reverse lights working?

Do you have the wiring to the other #2 plug? Should be 2 seperate black spade terminals.

When I initially looked for it I couldn't find any wires that were spare, I will have to have a better look tomorrow. If i do find them I'll have to find the same plug for the current switch and rewire it according to the site shown? Any ideas about where to find the plug?

Ok i had a proper look at the wiring this morning. I found 2 all black wires and bridged them up and the reverse lights worked. I then wired them onto the switch according to the brokevw site but the lights still stayed on even though i was in neutral. Any ideas why? Ive checked all the grounds and the fuses, do i just need a new switch?

Hey Matt, it sounds like the switch is stuck in a position as if it is always in reverse. Maybe the switch is gummed up or something with the contacts stuck in. That link dubstar posted is really good, you might be able to salvage the switch by pulling it apart, or using some contact cleaner/lubricant spray and poking around a bit and freeing the spring-loaded contacts.
