I just got myself a TS manifold and 32/36 webber, but I won't be able to get it on the little beastie until I get back from leave.

Does anyone know what the power gains (kW) are over the standard carb? (as a ball-park gustimate)

I've been told it's well worth it (as well as glowing reports from this forum)

Also, what do people recommend? A full metal & paper air filter set-up? or one of those foam socks? Which is better (as I do not have either at the moment)

I finally got to introduce the webers to the golf engine. Bloody stacks are too long (D'oh!) and I may have to look at some with a 45degree bend to point them at something else other than the firewall (I have chopped a nice hole into the raintray especially for them to breath through).
My main mistake was overestimating the angle that the 40s would sit at in relation to the engine in the bay. Mr Golf being east-west the carbs are at the back of the engine, going by the factory prepped cars I hoped to copy their technique of finding some fresh air for the ITBs through the raintray, but I now see the ITBs are at a much sharper angle than the webers - bummer!

now that's some very cool old skool mechanical injection.

Look's like a hilborn or kinsler setup without the mechanical pump drive off the engine.

Would love to know more about this setup. Please post up if anyone has any.

Pissa. Has the same sort of breather setup as my old beast.

What type of intake manifold are you running?

The Factory team were running a Zenith injection system.
I have a scan of the original 1981 magazine story on their prepping the cars for competition. It was kinda my inspiration to build the MK1 as a rally car.

Hey Ant, your car has a Mk2 UK spec Kjet engine, with a G grind cam and a Close ratio 5 speed from a Mk2 Golf 1988ish. Should absolutely scream with a bigger carby....or two
