Advice: Looking to get a set of rims for 'Driver Training'

I am thinking I will need to get a rim set for driver training purposes - what are peoples suggestions for this - 14", 15"?

I was not looking to get anything special for rubber, probably some Ecsta 31's.

Thoughts people?

Hi Mik,

I use 15 x 6.5's primarily because that is the minimum that will fit over my brakes. But before that I used to use 14" mk3 steelies which I thought were great for throwing the car around, the extra sidewall makes them so much more forgiving. They may not look as flash though.

But if you get 15's I think you have more tyre options. I have a set of toyo r888's on my 15 x 6.5 track rims and from memory they were one of the very smallest sizes available. You may struggle to get some tyres in sizes smaller than 15". Also a lot of guys with jap cars run semi-slicks on 15" rims so those sizes end up being easier and cheaper to get.

I run Toyo R888s on 14" s. 185/60/14 Easily available and cheap(ish) at about $220 a corner. Good life too.

Any wheel will do but my preference is for something that is OEM, properly hub centric and uses standard bolts.

Seat Steelies are good, MK3 alloys & steelies work well, BMW e30 wheels are good too.

Thanks for your help guys.

I am wondering why I have a set of MK3 steel rims here, but it seems that they will only fit on the car with 10mm spacers, otherwise they foul on the suspension. What is that all about? Are they not a direct swap? Alex g and I noticed one time on his mk2, that 3 of the wheels were one offset and the 4th was 10mm different.

Here are the rims for reference - i'd rather not run these due to the spacer issue.

BMW e30 wheels from a 318i are great as they are slightly offset to give an even wider track. 2 things to consider:
1. You will need longer wheel bolts (If you can still find them, old Holden Camira bolts will do the trick
2. Be careful that your wheels don't rub on inner of front guard, you may have to bend the inner lip around the arck a bit as they could take chunks out of your tyres or damage your panel.
