Tips? What transmission does it have on it?
Because this car will probably drive differently, Ill just mention some observations/experience with my 2E MK2.
Between 1000 and 2000 rpm its a little bit sluggy, but by 3000rpm the engine is well and truly awake!
You don't really need to rev it out for power either, power seems to end a bit before 5000 (bog standard engine). I like to keep it between 1800 and 2500rpm for everyday driving.
If the gear ratio's are similar to a MK2 then you'll be doing 3000rpm at 100km/h.
Sorry to bore you ;P
I look forward to ALL the photos, its a very very nice MK1.

80 series - The MK2's BIG, Sooty, polar opposite...
HAHAHA
engine has custom extractors and 2.5 exhaust, and a pod filter.. other then thats its stock.
It pulls well from idle to 5k. after that its gutless.
But there is no lag between gears, it just pulls like a steam train

carefully!
no point binning it the first day you owned it cause you were being daft.
Get it out on a track day, and really let loose and learn what she's capable of!
Find a track and drive it like this 2E powered MK1.

On my MK3 I had 276 billet cam with 4-1 extractors and got 85kw at the wheels. Also had a 2Y short ratio gearbox in and would whip MK4 GTI's and VR6's on the 1/4mile.
If you wanna spend a bit of money and turbo it, you would need to drop the compression with low comp pistons or thicker head gasket and do some head work. Companies like Bahnbrenner or Kinetic motorsport have 8v turbo kits in stock at about $1600. Ebay US also got some cheap kits. Standalone management is also recommended.
