Can Mk2 steering wheel be fitted into Mk1

I don't like the Mk1 standard steering wheel, also don't like those aftermarket racer type. The Mk2 s/w is my favourite, can it be fitted into Mk1 without modification ?

I know that an early Mk2 will fit. The later ones may fit but I am not sure.

I have an early Mk2 GTI wheel for sale. (Four button type)

Early Mk2 have the smaller diameter sterring wheel hole, whilst later ones have a bigger hole and will need a splined shim, such as is found in Mk3s and SEATs. All the later wheels will fit, but will need the shim.

It'll probably come with the steering wheel.

Ahh.. is that where it came from - I bought my Mk1 with the 4 button 'wheel (as in pic above). Pretty happy with it

Yeah I've got one that came with the car - I think I'll throw it back on one of these days. Looks better than the Momo thing on there at the moment

The 4 button wheels are the perfect size for leverage of a non power steered Mk1.
