Cam selection

hi guys! new to this site, awesome i must say!!! i'm currently building a 2H motor to go into my mk1, twin weber DCOE 40 sidedrafts, ported and polished head, large valves, balanced bottom end (pistons, rods, crank, harmonic balancer and pressure plate) but i'm unsure of what sort of cam to go for. i'm after something that gives max power and revs (vehicle is going to be a weekender only, not a daily driver) and was after a few suggestions. any help would be much appreciated!!!

I recommend Techtonics Tuning cams. Good selection and reasonable prices.

Have a look. They have pretty good descriptions. The 276 is apparently a pretty good one. Golfworx has one in his Mk1 and was pretty happy with it. A little lumpy down low apparently, but running twin 40's, you obviously aren't after bottom end.

yer if you are running carbs and a looking for a high rever you will want a nice agressive cam 288 could be the go.

This subject has been brought up before, but I'll let you all in on secret again.

BBM sell TT cam's. There identical, right down to the same part #'s.

If you want to go any bigger than a 276, you'll need to clearance the lifter bores, as .449" lift is as high as you can go without modding anything apart from the valve spring's.

If your chasing massive hp & rev's & I was in your shoes & wanted a weekend warrior, I'd be sourcing a mechanical lifter head.

Otherwise I'd have a hydro cam custom made by wade or someone with the knowhow.

If you go mech cam, you can lean on them alot more & there's a wider selection of cam's.

Also, if you plan on a big cam, you'll need the compression ratio & cyl. head flow along with a suitable exhaust to suit the whole package.

Funny, both BBM & TT are located in Oregon.

So, I suppose it's which ever one can do the cheapest freight.
