ok, so every single thing in the golf works..

except reverse. i dont know a thing about how the linkage works and dad took a look and cant figure it out either, he tried to adjust it but its still not working

this is what makes a good day bad.

    Should be an easy fix.

Put it in neutral and move the gearknob left and right whilst someone watches the linkages. That way you can see which linkage needs adjusting. Now adjust it longer - does it get into reverse? No, then shorten it. With a bit of adjustment you should get it to work.

And congrats on getting this far. Well done.

Just making sure, not assuming that you don't, but you're selecting reverse by pushing the gear shift down and then into first yeah? The procedure for adjusting linkages is written up fairly well in the bentley manual, I can scan it tomorrow if you don't figure it out from what you've got!

After I changed my shaft bushings, I had issues with Reverse being where 1st should be, and no Fifth...
I had to losen the clamp at the end of the long front to rear shaft, slide the linkage off of the splined shaft, and rotate it a couple of teeth...

    Might help yours too...

Looking at the front of the car rotate the shaft clockwise to make it easier to get to the 1-2 gate is where I would start. I'll scan the pages from Bentley at lunch time mate.
