This is going to need someone to diagnose. Where in Canberra are you - I can have a look after work some time if you want.
Are you coming out to Goon's on Monday?

But no really, I like to look distinguished when I step out of the car. People are like, "wonder what he does for living."

I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable
Come along on Monday Pilks! We've got a few of us who are up for a little meet and greet at 6 PM in Kambah.
Seems like the timing is off, have you got a timing light? Could be a number of things though, I am just stabbing in the dark!
ill see if i can get! cheers for letting me know
we've got it all timed, havent used a timing light, dont you need idle for a timing light? (please correct me if im wrong)
pulled the carby of the manifold today and about to give it a good clean and try to set it to the specs its meant to be.. can anyone link me to a page telling me how to tune a solex 34 pict 5 carb? can only find ones for a pict 3. (they wouldnt happen to be the same would they?)
cheers, reid

so i took the carby out of the car, completely took it apart and cleaned EVERYTHING. im not sure how to set the fast idle screw however have got the bypass screw and air mixture screw sorted to factory specs.
can someone please enlighten me on what this hook and spring looking thing does.
on another note, its funny how many cuts and bruises you find after a day of working on a car that you dont even know happened.

okay then, update.
put new bolts in the inlet manifold because there was a big gap between the gasket and head, about a mil wide so thats been taken care of.
new problem which i think is the problem for it not idling. when we took the air cleaner off and looked at what the carby was doing when running we saw a problem. when taking your foot off the accelerator then a load of fuel shoots into the carby (between a teaspoon and table spoon full) and floods it, have absolutely no clue why.
cheers guys

You've got the manual fuel pump (the one inside the carby) setup backwards. It's supposed to pump the fuel as you accelerate not decelerate.
Your linkage should look something like this so that as you push down on the pedal the long arm moves clockwise to open the throttle
You can see the idle adjustment screw on the end of the arm.

The basics are the same. The long piece that you are touching in your picture must move clockwise to control the throttle opening and work with the brass assembly above your finger. In your picture you have the long piece on the left of the brass bits, it should be on the right.
I'll pm you my phone number. Give me a ring.
Cheers
Paul
so i have to swap the arm over to the other side? the car stills runs and accelerates fine and that arm just sits there doing nothing.
ill give you a ring tomorrow afternoon after school also
