I just spent the last hour reading through everything. An hour well worth it I'd say.

What a beauty! That's all I can say. One of the nicest VW's I have ever laid eyes upon. I'd be really keen to see some more pictures and/or videos though. Seeing as this thread hasn't been updated in the past year and a half, what's happened since?

I posted an update about this car in a separate thread only recently. It is significantly different to the pictures here now (and a lot better!). I'm still waiting for the wheels to finally arrive (along with a few final parts for the engine)... and then I'll post some pics. It's gone through three wheel changes so far :-p

I know what you mean about wheels! I've gone through the same amount with my daily! You just have to find the wheels that sit jussttt right

When are you moving to Melb? Are you going to get involved in the scene over here?

I change my mind often, plus I wanted something that wasn't common on a Mk1. I bought some HTN Rennsports quite a while ago... then they popped up on every show car in Europe, so they got the arse in favour of something no longer in production I also decided 14s looked too small and the ride height required to have them looking 'right' meant front wheel travel was basically gone.

Work commitments mean I have to move to Melb at the end of November... I'll keep my Tassie rego for obvious reasons, though. Happy to meet you guys and let some people have a drive of the car, though. Along with Mike and Ed (builders some other very fine metal), I keep to myself and don't participate much in the scene down here.

I've had to pull the arches further at the back of the car to fit the rear wheels, so I've also had to respray both sides (only way to ensure no mismatched colour...). I've gone to great lengths to make the arches look standard. I don't like arch extensions as they destroy the poke factor and make the wheels look too narrow

good to hear stu, i just hope you can get more involved both on the forum and the melbourne scene, because lets face it... the volkswagen scene is literally what WE make it to be, if no ones around then their is NO scene

also looking forward to some pics and just a good ol' fashioned update

While I respect your wishes to keep to yourself, it'd be awesome to see you becoming a regular around the Melb VW scene. We have some pretty cool meet up's and a good friendly crowd

As Dom said, the scene is what WE make it
