    Brakes found on ebay, Opinions?

Im after a set of GTi brakes for my MK1, but do you guys think these would be risky?

I have no concerns about getting my hands dirty pulling them apart or rebuilding them, just I have limited tools.

I have asked the seller what diameter they are, but can any of you tell if they would be suitable to fit under 13" alloys?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Henry

They would be 239mm, and yes they will fit inside a standard 13" steel wheel.

The sheet metal disc shroud is touch-and-go on a 13 inch steelie, but yeah they'll fit.

So fitment is ok, what about condition? I know you are looking at the same photos as I am, but I'm just after a second opinion. I don't want to miss something obvious.

You'd have to check the thickness more than anything. IIRC The ventilated discs are supposed to be 20mm new, 18mm at a minimum for RWC purposes.
Preeny, how's the shroud thing different? Are they different on the GTI's because of the bigger calipers?

Yeah the shroud is bigger. Found that out when i went to put stockies on mine to get it painted back in the day..

However, that doesn't show a shroud so i take it that they don't come with one.

The shrouds are mostly there to keep the brakes hot/suspension components clean anyway yeah? I say **** 'em!

man you can a buy brand new set of vented discs and pads (ATE original parts) from a place called HSY for like $160 and then even find some cabrio or mk2 gti callipers which im pretty sure fit or order them from camden gti for not much all up. i think if you spend a little more in the beginning not only will you have a whole new setup but it will prevent problems in the future, get better braking and will last you longer . . . just my thoughts as i just did this. cheers.
