Bought a MK1 GTI 1600, lost my mind!! Pictures now on page 2 post 13

Lost my mind the other day, drove past a MIDAS in Adelaide and nearly crashed my $1100 Camry. Clocked this MK1 in Mars red, had a look around and it seemed pretty genuine. Engine looks like new compared to a UK one of the same age. It runs well but needs some TLC.

Got in bother by spending 4 hours after work fettling things. Fitted my MOMO wheel, adjusted the brake pedal up to get some leverage. Pull the rear brake drums off. Someone has fitted studs instead of bolts which was strange.

Also has Pirelli wheels on it but only 2 caps, one has a dent in the rim but the tyre is up. I think I'll get some other wheels organised and then have a go at knocking the dent out.

It needs a CV joint but I can suffer that for the time being. The interior fan has gone south too, at least the windows work!

The front panel has had a close run in with a towbar but I have pulled a lot of it out.

A set of shocks probably wouldn't go a miss, even compared to my Camry the handling is a bit duff. Will get the front wheels off soon and have a look and see if there is anything out of the ordinary going on.

Of course you all want pictures which I'll get tomorrow.

    Gavin
