    The hatch just has black paint on it and I reckon it has been replaced at some time. The black bit should be a transfer from the factory.

    I am looking forward to driving it properly too. Some fettling required though. Parked it up for now as we are away for Christmas.

    There is plenty of room on the lawn and it's only a fiver a night!

    I agree it was a lucky find, I couldn't believe it myself at the time. Robin chuffing guessed straight off when I called him about it. Must be a mind reader I reckon.

    I reckon it'll be available in the next 6 months when I have finished it and the Audi.

    Yep, great find Gavin.
    Just curious about one thing though - one of the pictures shows solid front disks.
    Didn't all GTI's come with vented disks?
    (or are my eyes deceiving me?)

    Took this for a thrash yesterday and while the handling is far from sorted it was a blast. 1600 felt as eager at 6K as a valver. So much different to the 1800 digi it's not funny. Brakes need work but all in what a legend.

    Have to say the ratios felt longer than a mk2 so you really had to keep a foot in to make progress. Once this car has brakes and new suspension I can see it rocking in Flagstaff!
