    Blown Fuse, but everything works...

While tidying up the wires out of sight , i realised one fuse was blown.
Now going from the left its number 7, from the right its number 9.
Manual says 7 right hand side and tailight. 9 is Right hand side and high beam.

But everything of mine works, even with fuse out. all lights, low and high, left and right, indiactors, inside lights, reverse lights. handbrake light. fan turns on, stereo works, i have no idea.

Any help be great on what it is, im going to replace it, but its bugging me not knowing whats it for!!!!

i check out behind the fuse to make sure it hasn't been re-wired at all.

if it has, and has by passed the fuse, what's to stop you car catching fire if you have an electrical glitch? not the fuse that's for sure.

i'd check out behind it, make sure it looks honky dory before shutting the book on it.

You got a point, but im not very handy with electrics.
And dont wont to go fiddle incase i knock something and it wont start

On a side not, should Mk1's have a ACC on the key barrel? so i can listen to music while waiting for the missus in the shops ect ect.. cause atm the stereo turns on when i got the key set to ON. when turning key there is one click and nothing happens, 2nd click everything comes on, 3rd turns over engine.

Think that's how it goes old mate, 1st click is just the turn from steering lock position, 2nd all power, then start (or start button in my case lol).
It's possible to wire up a seperate accessary wire for the stereo, but i believe you'd need a newer model ignition switch, plus if your not real confident with wiring then can be a pain the bum.

Either way think jared's pretty much on the money with the fuse, i'd be getting onto that asap, carby driven vw's are known for catching fire

no ACC on mk 1's. my audi, which is basically the same electically as a mk 1, the stereo is hardwired, with a switch and relay for when i want it on. I can turn it on with out the key in the ign at all. you have to have a relay though, otherwise if you just hard wire it in, it'll draw too much current/power and the batt will go dead.

There should be a switchable live and a permenant live to the radio.

One keeps the settings stored, the other well, turns it all off.

keeps all the settings on the HU, unless the batt is disconnected.
