Good luck with the wiper mods, the springs will be fun.
I'd use red scotchbrite to polish the pivot shafts before greasing.Won't remove metal like sandpaper but will polish it a treat.

We made enough room yesturday to get the car out of the back yard and on to the road. It drives well....for a car with 445000km haha. Ive got the idle up to 1k-1.1k rpm and a still shakey 700rpm in gear.

Today i washed and polished it, came out fantasitc. The phone pictures didnt capture it very well though, but they will give you an idea.

I drove it around a bit to a few mechanics to see who can do the roadworthy the soonest, looks like it will be on monday. On my last stop it wouldnt start again. I think the solenoid is busted as it just clicks and doesnt turnover. I waited a bit and it started up again.

I've never done anything with starter motors so i have what may be more stupid questions. Can i just replace the solenoid and can I use a solenoid from a 5 speed starter?

wow mate, that looks really really nice. i'm impressed. if its even better in real life...well

i am unsure about auto/manual differences, but i know there are no real functional differences between manual starters apart from power output - so maybe try just using your other starter?

I realise the starter motor is different and on the other side of the motor, i just want to know if i can use the solenoid.

Thanks for the link mate, it looks like they are not interchangable. Anyone got one lying around?

You need to fit the heatshield to protect the solenoid from the exhaust heat.

What is hapenning is when the car is hot the solder is melting on the solenoid and the car wont start. When it cools down and the solder reforms, its good to go again.

Changing the solenoid wont help, you need the heatshield.

Otherwise the car looks good mate.
