The best method of "caging" a mk1..

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking with my new mk1 i will prob take out the back seal, create a false floor from the boot through to right behing the front seats and carpet that area, and then put a bolt in 4 (or what ever is best) point roll cage

I am not handy with the welder and I have no idea how to get my hands on a cage.. help?? haha

and let me know what you think about this idea..

Most 4wd centre's can knock up a check half cage for your Mk1.

But if you plan on doing track days etc later on you will need a Cams approved cage so you will then have to go and see and engineering/race shop and have one built. Will not be cheap...

So a 4wd centre would be cheap?

What do you want the cage for?

If you're going racing then you'll need it properly done to current regs as James pointed out.

If you're just after the look I've seen "cages" made from exhaust pipe or even PVC plumbing pipe.

A 4wd place could bend up a hoop and legs for you but you'd never be allowed on a race track. The officials would prefer no cage at all to a non-approved one.

Just for looks i'd like a nice stainless one if possible! but it sounds as though no one knows of a company that make them for mk1's? or some dude who happens to have on in his back yard?

Police and insurance would look extremely upset to see a pvc cage in a car....
