    Battery in boot

Just out of curiosity, I've relocated my battery in the boot, the battery is sitting on a steel tray and strapped in, this is all secured down and doesn't move! It also has plenty of ventilation!
If I do take this golf in for a RWC will they accept the battery in the boot? Or would I have to leave it back in the original spot?
    Thanks
    Steve

There should not be a problem. My Mini had its battery there.

What you may want to do is get a proper battery box and put the battery in it and strap that down. It makes sure the terminals are not bare and will also capture any acid spill or corrosion on the terminals.

You can get a battery box at auto shops or boating shops.

A SEALED AGM is legal in a passenger compartment an UNSEALED wet lead acid one is not.

The Minis got away with it as the boot was separate from the passenger compartment.

Anything with a lowerable back seat may have problems unless the correct type of battery is used

Same with Caravans outside the living area for lead acid AGM ok inside but have seen some that dont comply like under the bed.

Be good if they brew up in the middle of the night LOL

Putting one in a battery box that normally has vents in it does not qualify as far as i am aware.

Thanks for thoes clarifications! I'm assuming it should be fine to place battery in the boot, I will also box a few sides off so noting makes contact with terminals and ect, If anyone knows more about relocating battery in boot is an illegal procedure please notify me!

I read (does not make it true) that being factory on one car does not mean its ok in another by virtue, it would need to be certified.

True My Passat has a an AGM but the Polo doesnt. I could locate the Passat battery within the passenger compartment but not the POLO one.

The only way to get an exact ruling is approach the compliance part of your States RTA.

We can only voice an opinion which may or not apply to where you live. Read thsi from the Yuasa site

    Leakage Protection
The new Elite lid design meets and exceeds the latest German OEM safety standards for acid leakage under extreme conditions. These standards require that the automotive battery can withstand acid leakage when upside down for a minimum of 30 minutes when ‘off charge’ and a minimum of 2 minutes whilst receiving a charge. Many of the newer vehicles on our roads have the automotive battery fitted inside the passenger compartment, usually under the rear seat or in the boot. In the event of an accident whereby the vehicle has rolled onto its side or roof, conventional car batteries will immediately begin leaking acid into the passenger compartment. This can be extremely hazardous to the occupant of the vehicle. The new Elite automotive battery range prevents the leakage of acid in these situations.
So does yours have this or would it leak.

I'm not being confrontational, but how do the original beetle get away with it? My bother had an original beetle and it was under the rear bench seat (standard location). The biggest problem was the paper mache cover that wore through and the metal seat springs would short across the battery posts.

You don't really want to have a container of acid in the passenger compartment, so you might have to look to an appropriate battery that is not going to spill anything.

Like the cars they were in, the regulations have changed possibly due to the reasons they were so dangerous.
