Hey fellas,
So some years have passed, and its time to move onto another golf mk1. I picked up this bad boy for a price i was fairly happy with. The drive to pick this little white car wasnt anything extreme, but on a very rainy day, a overly big trailer, auto van that has no guts, and driving through the yarra ranges where its one massive hill after one massive drop, my old man and I finally got her home.
There are some rust issues, i guess for some more skilled people, its easily fixable. The floor pan is rusty, and there a few bits here and there that need some treating etc. For the most of it, its a not bad car for the price i got it. Now innitially i bought it due to the body being very straight, with no structural damage, which i thought was a worthy foundation to build. I also bought the car due to it already having a 2E engine with 5 speed and already installed digifant injection system.
Now, im still young, but i do know my fair share of how cars work and i do everything on my car myself. However when it comes to wiring and fuel injections, im fairly lost. So with a new path, i am deciding to ditch the digifart, and just go with a 32/36 weber on passat manifold, which i already have.
Even though on my orange mk1, i have almost replaced or rebuilt every part, i still feel like this is going to be a very good experience for an 18 year old, and i am hoping to come out of this with not a fancy car, but just the experience, and the balls to try things myself, rather than spending $$$ to get others to do it. I guess the hardest bit will be finding a welder, and cutting and welding new peices to replace the rust. - I'll slowly work my way through that ahaha.
Anyway enough chitter chatter, here are the plans;
The orange one will remain my daily until the white one has been repainted. I am going to do something with the rego that i dont wish to mention on a public forum lol. I am going to take my mk2 dash, seats, wheels, suspension and other goodies from the orange mk1 and put it into the white mk1. I am going for a race look, as i love the cleanliness of the interior and the simplicity. I am also going to try a simple wire tuck, nothing fancy. There will only be 2 buckets, with the half cage, and no carpet what so ever. I am still un decided on the subwoofer being placed in where the spare wheel goes (i want a decent stereo to over power road noise)
The 'to-do' list so far before xmas is;
-Strip car completely
-remove all dirt/grease/grime
-Remove all rust
-Relocate battery behind passenger seat
-Get a new radiator that allows me to remove the water bottle
-Paint the whole car white - yet to decide which white
Thats about as far as i think i'll be able to go before xmas.
So here is how i bought it a couple of weeks back,
Going to miss the orange one
Last night i got to stripping as much as i could, and also removed the engine - Thanks to Hakan for the help
Also stripped windows boot interior etc
Thats it for now, as i have one more exam to go ahaha.

Hello fellas, its been a long time since a post.
No, i have not been lazy, however my orange golf got broken into and my camera was stolen. Therefor i have not been able to post any updates with pics etc. The car is now completely stripped out, with nothing in. I Am going to start looking at the rust problems and try to sort them out. However, i need to tips.
I have a spare bonnet that i am going to use as metal sheets, however what welder do i use to cut/weld new sheets of metal to replace the rust. I have never done that method of repairing rust, therefore any tips/methods of what to use would be great. Thanks

Time to keep a big ass dog in there to keep the locals out.
But your putting in a fair effort mate, and loving the builds.

As for you always reading my thread and something wrong happening, i forgot to add to it. HA, got defected this morning.So now i gotta spend what cash i had to fix the rust, to get a roadie for the orange golf, as its my daily. Im depressed, but the cop was nice enough not to fine me, said i should use the money to fix it instead lol

That sucks about the defect dude, what did you get picked up on?
Quick question i have for people with better experience than myself. I am beginning the rust repair and need some quick advice. Apart from the obvious cut/weld on the bigger rust and holes, for little surface rust and such things, whats the best way to go about that? I have the sanding disc, 120 grit, and it gets rid of all the surface rust and goes straight to bare metal, which is perfect. Now for my question, what about the little crevices that i cant get into. Do i just put rust converter over it, and then paint over, or ..... ?
Any help would be great. Just curious how some people went about with their rust issues.
