ABF based on it being bolted to a 02A gearbox.
Your phone is casting a shadow over the engine number. Look there for what type it is.
Looks like ABF to me but I haven't seen a lot of KR/9A etc to know the differences.
Hi there
can anyone tell me what they think the engine code might be for this. The guy I bought it of reckons its a 9A but I can't find anything on the engine.
Left side of head reads: GERMANY 051103373

I did try to look there but can't see anything and even had my dad who is a mechanic have a look at it and can't find anything.
If its an ABF is it a good engine?
Went to go and search around for the code and it looks like a 9A. Can't really see to well but it looks like it says 9A.
will let you know once I have stripped a bit more etc.

KR is a 1.8L, standard European spec mk2 16v engine.
9A is a 2.0l, standard US spec, but has the same stroke as a KR, just a bigger bore.
and ABF has a longer stroke, but same size bore as the KR and a 15mm taller block.
The engine no. should be at the front of the engine under the inlet manifold. Whatever the prefix says, that's what the engine is. E.g mine is KR 186 788.
But then again maybe ABF's are stamped differently.
There's heaps of info on the 16v's and 1.8T's on clubGTI in the UK
Hey guys,
Just want to throw a question out there:
Is a V6 Bora SYNCRO better than 4MOTION?
I might be able to get my hands on one if the price is right, and then just have to source a Gearbox for it coz aparently according to NRMA the box is burntout. Obviously I will check it out first and make the call myself, but just want to know what is better, SYNCRO or 4MOTION??
Same sh*t, different badge
Hey guys, so I have the oppotunity to buy a V6 PASSAT SYNCRO for a couple grand. What to do?!?!?
