    Audi S3 vs VW 4Motion...

    Hi there,

    I am currently taking it slow and searching around for a a golf in good nick. Will eventually find it. My biggest issue is deciding between Audi S3 or Bora V6 4Motion. I assume you can sort of pick up on my idea I have and what I am planning.

    so please feel free in giving comments about which you think is the better and pro's and con's for both.

    And may I add, if you know of someone who has either one(so far I am more S3) for really cheap NSW(including ACT) region, I'll drive and pick up. But I want a complete car, because I want to see if I can fit the interior and dash etc.

    Do IT ! Either one it really doesn't matter.
    Of course a 1.8t is going to be lighter in the front than a 6 banger
    Im a big fan of the 6 personally.
    Just change the suspension to suit so its down to YOUR personal preference
    which seems to be S3?
    Both are a good choice just make sure you spend the money
    and get a lOW mileage car if thats the way you are going or else buy a supper cheap
    ****y one just for floor panels frames etc etc, replace all your bushings brand new,
    rebuild your gearbox and diff, rebuild your engine etc the list goes on and the time involved might make
    it more worth while to fork out and buy a low milage car not to mention high mileage cars with nice interiors are harder to find.
    S3 interior is better than 4 motion i would have thought but anyway.
    I hope to see another 4 motion/quatro build ;D

    If you are going to go 6cyl, you should consider the R32 over the Bora... 3.2L vs 2.8L
    Alternatively, you could go big block with the R36 Passat...

    I did think about the R32 which was my original plan but replacement parts are difficult to find. I will rebuild diff, gearbox and engine. So I do not mind the high/low mileage part.

    From what I understand, R32 and a late Bora 4motion are almost the same for everything except the ecu and short block...
    Try to avoid the early coil pack VR6's as they are just not as good as the later coil on plug engines... (Applies to VR5's too)

    In a MK1 golf, the VR5's are actually a great little engine. (This is what I want in my Cabby...)
    Coupled with a 4motion gearbox, which bolts straight up, it would be a very cool car.

    The R32 is a little bit wider than the 2.8 but I am really leaning towards the 4 banger because it is just a lot lighter and smaller.

    I know there is a guy in ACT going to do the V6 Bora 4Motion conversion on a 9N polo. It's going to be a zippy car.

    not sure what you plan to do with the car, but the S3 turbo will offer a lot more bang for bucks power/torque returns from modding than a NA V6 will

    Which S3 are you looking at getting though? 8L or 8P? becasue one is a 1.8T and the other is a 2.0T...

    Can you tell me the difference? Power? Turbo size etc? Other than the obvious bigger capacity

    8L 165kW post MY02, 154kW pre MY02 (1.8T)
    8P 188kW Aus spec, 195kW Euro spec (2.0T)

    AFAIK both use a variation of a K04 turbo.
