    Another go at fixing it

Well I took the inlet manifold off today.... it was actually a peace of p...

I needed to buy a 6mm alen key socket and borrowed the neighbours 5/8th to half inch adapter.

My questions are.... what type of gasket material do I need to buy? Is the thick cardboard stuff ok? Or is it special material i should use?

    and

I stuck my finger into the inlet port and in the last 2 u can feel a little bit of rubber hanging from the top of the port but in the first 2 there is nothing anyone know what it is and if it is missing two?

    cheers

    Gasket

Get the proper one. It's not worth making your own as if you get it wrong you could end up with a manifold leak that would make it untunable. Clean the manifold and the head thoroughly with a blade. When fitting it smear a very light coat of silicone on both sides. This helps stick it to the head. Torque it accurately.

    Hope it goes well

Still takes the original gasket to the head. Any VW workshop would have them. PM me if you need one from this end. Benaiah got my last one wednesday but have ordered some more. Try a local source first. Cheers!

Bought a gasket from mk2 gti from this forum. He works in his dads shop down the rd from my place. Anyways, I found out that the little blobs of silicon in the inlet port are from a dodgey install. The installer of the motor filled the injector holes that go into the inlet port with silicon. He put a bit to much in and some ran down and into the inlet port. Surely there would be a better way other than silicon to fill the injector holes

Put it all back togethor and it still ran pretty bad. fiddled with the dellorto some more and it seems to be running nice now. Time will tell..... im not real confident driving it far but it seems to be ok
