Wow. Good luck with the sale. It looks very bloody nice.

Given I also looked at buying this car I might be able to help out with any questions prospective buyers might have as well.

Haha, no not at all. I looked at the car around this time last year. It drove really nicely, but the bodywork issues were beyond my scope. If I had access to panel beating like Alex I would have been much more interested.

In fact, here's the old FS thread...

Ok so i went for a little drive tonight, a trip to the seven 11 turned in to a 3 our cruze along the beach and highway, i am really enjoying the suspension and ride, but i think the time has come for some engine work to be done.
the car is going in next week, to get the roof re trimmed and interior done up a bit, so after that it is free to hit the garage.
what do i need to do to get this thing running back up or above its original state? i have heard from a few people k-jet and stuff not 100% on what it all is, or am i better off taking it to volkspower?

Without knowing what you've done to it already, here's what I'd do. Maybe it just needs a good service and tune (I'm guessing you've had that done though)

    Is it a 1.6 or 1.8L?

If it were a 1.8L. I'd just get the head rebuilt with some minor porting and polishing. install a slightly larger cam (270-276 deg). Get the block checked & new bearings/piston rings. Install A larger throttle body, (along with port matched intake manifold), some bigger Kjet induction gear (off a Volvo) & fit some extractors and a 2" exhaust.

You could do the same to a 1.6, but the gains wouldn't be as significant. It would still rev hard & be a ball of fun though!

Providing all the Kjet bits you have are in good working order, Kjet is great! And it's what the GTI's came with, so even better imo.

Sorry to say Jarred. That cam is a major down grade!

GTI cam with stock "real" G-grind cams which were a solid cam with

(people oftern confuse the mk2 cam with "G" stamped in it as a G-grind which is far from it)

    283° advertised
    225° at 0.050"
    0.423" lift

Question Alex. How much do you want to spend?

Thats the first thing you need to decide on & then you can work out what mods to go for.

If you start off & say mild upgrades, which is relatively cheap to some, but if your after 160hp, then the cost will increase dramatically.

This was my old setup with a US spec GTi low compression engine which made roughly 100whp & ran as fast as US spec G60's over the 1/4.

GX with the compresion raised to 9.4246:1 Corrected & balanced with the clutch/flywheel assembly.
