    AIr Horns

I know I've been a bit quiet lately, I've been a bit busy of late. Here's the photos of one of my air horn installations just for fun.

Would anyone who heard them at Day of the Volkswagen in Cranbourne care to explain just how loud they are for the benefit of the interstaters?

I think the look of terror on MDT's daughters face was enough for me.

Imagine a freight train horn in a Mk1.

    One word.

I always wanted a train horn in my car. I am guessing the loudness is attributed to the dedicated air tank for it? do you manually fill the tank?

It is so cool whichever way it works.

Yep, Arlec brand tank, I got that tank from Kmart for $40. They're setup to fill from a tyre pump but their stock fittings leak like a sieve. They're bigger than you really need but good value for the price. I fill mine from a compressor to about 130PSI.

The horns will sound down to about 40 PSI but if you can get 130 PSI to them they're unbelievable. (150psi is nuts)The manufacturer claims 150dB out of the horns.

I have a smaller 3 litre tank in my other golf which has similar twin horns. It seems ample for a few good sustained blasts. The pop up on ebay every now and then.

The horns are louder than the Connex metro trains, they sound more like the diesel VLINE trains.

    My horns came from www.siegeengineering.com

There's more insane setups and videos etc at www.hornblasters.com
