    After market EFI

Where does one Go to read about this?
Have looked and can only find stuff for 16v's

Dont reckon id ever do it, but would like to read about whats needed, ECU injectors manifold ect... ect ect..

What does the 2E run? looks like a EFI setup... could that be retro-fitted to a 1.8L?

Dont want no comments about "too much hassle, go carby"

You'd want a manifold that had injectors that plugged into the manifold, that way the injectors and fuel rail would be able to be easily retro fitted. Otherwise you'd have to fit them into the head. Some heads have injector holes (Kjet IIRC) some don't (EFI, IIRC)

Obviously you'll need an ECU. standalone = tuning & set up time and costs. Factory means wiring hassles. Getting it all spliced in wouldn't be for the faint hearted, but it would give great reliabilty/driveability etc.

Obviously EFI fuel lines, fuel pump etc etc.

Throttle body, with a TPS probably, and some form of AFM/MAF or MAP sensor.

Then timing, standalone (MSD) would be nice, but could probably runa 2E style distributor, if it fitted. IIRC, the 1.8 dizzy needs and apator/spacer shim to fit into the 2L block. I'm not sure if it would work the other way around, but maybe there is a 1.8 dizzy that'll work with the ECU regardless.

Legal issues: If you run EFI in a non EFI car, you are probably meant to run a Cat, carbon canister etc, all the things the donor car came from. If it's a retro fitted jobbie, then it may be different, but either way, I'd check out legal complications first, no good having a car that's illegal. :/

They're just a few thoughts off the top of my head (it's late too, so fingers crossed they all make sense, and are on or atleast close to the money)

im not too sure mate, was a while back.

just wouldnt mind learning bout it, would make for a pretty reliable and fuel efficent daily running 1.8L EFI donk

Ive inquired about this because i have a mk2 on my mk1 which has ports for injectors as well as a whole host of engine parts to suit injection.
Its seems to be prity basic.

One option was to transfer everything from one of my mk2s or you could use mk3, injectors, pump (and fuel tank), sensors, maf, throttle etc and run digifart. I was told the hardest part would be wiring in the loom. Whether its a mk2 motor or mk3 it would be the same, you would just have to transfer everything over that talks to the ecu. Keep in mind the fuel pump lives.

I spoke to a bloke who swapped out his SD 1.9l on 32/36s for a k-jet mk2 gti 1.8l and he said he couldn't feel any difference, wasn't much quicker and was disappointed. He said it was fairly easy but wished he didn't waist his time.

The other option is still to get all the sensors and petrol pump etc and run a stand alone ECU, it would be easier to tune and i suppose it would make a bit more power but the problem with this is that it would cost like $1100 for the ecu alone, not including the tune or loom in some cases.

The main point i got to in the end is that its not really worth it for me. It would be more fuel efficient for sure but if i gave a crap about that i would have got a Yaris. I don't think it would be more reliable, after all your adding things so there would be more things to go wrong.

Its a bit of work for very little gain on an 8v. For me it also ruins the old school flavor of a mk1. I know you said not to say it but I would rather spend the $1100 on some brand new twin40s on the 8v or go 16v swap injected or twin40s if i was looking for power gains.

    thanks,

I know id never do it, but i just like reading about stuff and getting a idea behind it all.
I fuel Injected a 4k engine in a 79 corolla, and it was amazing. but i had everything in the kit right down to fuel pump and ecu ect.

I do agree on twin carbs over EFI though

Can you put a 16v head on an 8v block?
