    Advance and retard - distributor

Guys, someone who owned the car before me (93 Cab mk1) Has blocked off the advance and retard pipe that goes into the distributor with a blanking screw.

The pipework is connected to all other sources. I have seen this done before.

Can anyone explain why and whether I should re connect it back up.

The car seems to pull fine.

    Any advice would be useful.

someone had fun with the vacuum system.

    Try this website:

This is for pre-1990 as if Australian built I have found that they are CIS injection, not CIS-E or Digifant.

    Try connecting it up.

Also not a bad idea to replace the vacuum pipes whilst you are playing there as these are a problem as they age.

    Good luck mate

as i've learnt with my car. things can seem right and not be.

SO yea, If you know what you're doing, hook up the advance, see what it does. I'm geussing the distributor has the capabilities of being advanced that is (ie stock..?)

This probably wont help, but what the hey. Just don't do anything you can't undo!

I didn't hook it up yetserday but delved a little deeper and an external vacumm has been put on the car, which is obviously replacing the original one on the distributor so whilst it runs OK, i think I will let sleeping dogs lie so to speak ! Pommie phrase !
