Met a really nice guy on saturday (at the Light Car Club Khana-cross), took all of 2 minutes to hate him intensly (only kidding Dave)
It seems that he had been looking for a car to bash around and have a bit off fun at the odd khana-cross and motor-khana, found an ad on Carsales for a MK1 GTI (Yeah sure you all say - like they exist). On inspection it turned out to be an 82 MK1 GTI, personally imported by the (only) owner from Germany, in good condition, little rust, everything else looks original - for
$500
Now we just have to convince him that he needs to keep it original, and not mod it too much
Had to post this story before Dave finds the site.

I say good on him.
My reasoning is, "why not modify a GTI?" as this is the car that people did modify to make better.
Remember in alot of people's cases & in point of view's, it took alot less modification & money to make a GTI better than a Golf C! As the GTI already had the good engine, trans, interior, questionable brakes etc.
That's the way I see it anyway.
I doubt anyone will agree with me though.
Also, a GTI is only worth as much as what someone is willing to pay for it.

My way of thinking is it's O.K. to modify to your hearts content (without cutting up the car in anyway) but only if it can be reversed. That's my style.
My GTI's genuine, but my mod's aren't cutting anything up or out (which can all be reversed even the pedal box removal) & the external & internal aspect's will be as standard.
If I didn't say what the car has had done, you couldn't tell & think it is standard.
But in some circumstance's I agree & disagree in regard to how far the mod's go.
And now we just wait for Dave to show his face . I just sent the site details to one of his mates from the BMSC so it should not be too long now

Well I guess my reputation precedes me.
Thanks for the intro BTW. The Golf is going well but it is at VW center as I type this. I took it in to have the relays (missing) replaced a lower strut brace fitted and get a roadworthy certificate. But as it turns out it is in need of a little more work that I had thought. Electrically mostly but the back struts are also pissing out oil so I have to get new ones which isn’t really a bad thing because I had planed on lowering it a little and stiffening it up a little with a bush kit as well as a set of firmer struts all round. But I had planed to do this in a few months time.
What is the school of though on suspension for the MK1 GTI? I come from a Jap turbo scene so the brands I am familiar with don’t really apply. Thanks and I look forward to letting you all know how the car is going.
