You'll need to compliance the car before you go for roadworthy.

PM me and I'll give you the details of an Engineer who's familiar with Golfs.

You may have to update the seatbelts but it shouldn't be too hard to get this on the road.

As far as I am aware there is no need to compliance this car as it was built before 1989 meaning technically this car doesn't need to comply with the ADR rules but needs to pass a road worthy for the standards of the build year.

I know that I need to get a VACC ( I think it is called that ) basically someone authorised by Vic roads to check the chassis number is stamped into the car correctly and matches the paper work.

    Then a roady

    Then rego.

Then beach road for a cruise with the windows down and the biggest smile you will see on anyones face this year - guaranteed

But I am sure there will be something in the import and customes process that will wipe the smile from face at some point. Just learning as I go as this is the first import I have done.

You might be issued a new VIN once the car has been rubber stamped too. That happened with my 1980 Mk1 when it was imported here in the mid 90s. In theory I need to carry that paperwork with me in the car too.
