So I've been driving this around here and there in the past week and noticed an oil leak. Unsure of where it's from, as the whole bloody thing has oil everywhere. I've been wanting to strengthen the sump for some time now, and thought I'd pop it off.... Weld a bash plate on and re seal it (eliminate the sump from leaking). So I did, got some 5mm plate yesterday for free from a buddy, and got to welding. I only did the front as I figured thsts where it will take a hit first if anything..

It's by no means perfect, but is more heaps chunkier now.

Also I've been contemplating sorting some wiring issues. Wipers don't work, horn doesn't work, there's a million wires and relays from previous owner etc. also the fact that it used to be kjet meant heaps of unused wires left over. I started off looking st the bay, and next minute half the car was apart and almost all wires pulled out. I have no idea what I'm doing hahahaha but we'll see. There's a lot of burnt wires thst need replacing etc. so confused at the moment but I'll take one small task and keep going. Anyone have any wiring diagrams thst are more user friendly?

Basically the old man has jumped onboard and said he could sponsor bits and pieces as he really loves the car. So the idea behind everything is to get the car as reliable as possible and some kind of a restoration. Oh I forgot to mention, talks of a respray are in place!

There's no such thing as a wiring diagram that's user friendly.

What you need to do is buy lots of colour coded wire and replace the existing wiring, 1 wire at a time, with one of the same colour code. Or you could buy a new loom (which you'd still need to modify but not every single wire).

The number 1 rule with wiring is to make sure everything is fused so there's never a short that melts wires or causes a fire. And don't run wiring over sharp edges like the top of the rain scuttle.

    Cheers

    Paul

Thanks for the tips Paul, unfortunately not easy to find colour coded wires brand new

Removed a ton of dl wires, burnt wires etc. tried to group and wrap up as much as I could. Wipers aren't working still and washer bottle. Fixed the horn, and everything else seams to be working. High beams don't, but sometimes they flicker on their own.... Something's not right.

Will try to relay the head lights for maximum power and so on. Dreadful, dreadful task

Dreadful task but so rewarding when it works.

I've got heaps of wires that aren't connected to anything, even extra plugs for each headlight. I have no idea why but all my electrics work. I'll tidy them up one day but for now I'm happy just to drive.

Hehe Peter you're on the money.

No idea how this happened, woke up on Wednesday and wanted an upgrade and a more reliable motor to do more road trips. Found out my current 020 box fits on the 20vt motor. So it was settled. Found this and bought it hahaha. Got it for a very reasonable figure thanks to mr.Peters help. So that's the plan. 8v out, engine bay clean and possible respray, custom make the new engine bracket, attach old gearbox, do the tensioner, custom exhaust, cooler, and will try my very best to use the standard ecu.

Unfortunately........ My dad's car (aka work horse) wasn't too lucky. He wasn't too happy with me haha, and holy ****, am I going to pay for it. Got quoted a ridiculous 450-500 figure to replace the rear window from 3 places. Madness.

    Loool

Managed to pick up a brand new cooler from a mate of mine for a measly $100

So that's it guys! Plans are to have it done by the end of jan. Will be shopping for timing belt, water pump, front/rear main seals, and other bits on the next pay check.

Here's a list of what's going to be done, if anyone can help out, please do!

    Mounts: custom
Tensioner: I've read mk2 16v? Can someone confirm if it's abs, kr etc please
Clutch: I believe any 020 will work? I will upgrade to a mk3 tdi gearbox in the future as they are stronger I'm told, will the same clutch work?
Wiring: hoping to somehow split it into the current loom, and use only essentials to run motor.
Ecu: can someone please tell me how to disable immobiliser. I dont have a key or the cluster. Please!
Fuel pump: maybe wall bro 255?

Anything else I'm forgetting that's major?

Sick buy man. Know the code? If it's an AEB then no need for custom mounts, so there's a plus

Hey guys, where does one find a 16v timing belt tensioner?

I've been to repco, autobarn, supercheap auto and it doesn't come up at all. Aba, abf or those 16v variants! Anyone? I'm rushing to get all the parts before Xmas and all shops shut down
