    NO SAWYS???
My bad, I had the impression that all cabbys came out with sway bars? Anyways all the ones I've seen have had them. George does yours have karmen badges on the guards?

I know they all handle great with a bit of tweaking but how rough (noise/vibration/harshness) are they compared to a MK1?

My MK2 is my daily ride and I do 900 ks a week. It's got really stiff coilovers so the ride can be a bit bone jaring but everyone says MK2's are heaps better than MK1's for ride quality. It's been over 10 years since I had my last MK1 (1983 white GTI which went to Tassie) and I can't remember how rough it was to drive. If I get another MK1 it has to be a bit refined if I'm going to be spending 2 hours per day driving it on country roads.

It has to be reasonably quiet, no rattles and with a good heater. I don't care how hard it rides - I may be old but I'm not ready to drive with a hat on or stop taking corners on 3 wheels.

I think if agree on the mk2 being a better driver. It's heavier, and put together better I'd say. The JOM coilovers are pretty stiff, especially that I'm sitting on bump stops. However on the fwy it's pretty great. But with all seriousness, in your situation, I'd most likely stay with the mk2 and go standard struts with lowered springs Paul.

    Car looks sweet!

I have a 1980 mk1 Rabbit import too, I bought it from QLD and I am trying to register it in SA. I took it for an inspection and it has no compliance plate! I was wondering if yours has one and where is it located on the car?
