So went to do the rear main seal today, turns out I've got the wrong one. Anyone within the mk4 section have this issue? Did I get the wrong seal or??

Brand new is on the right, and the old one is in the middle.

Also a quick question, I'm planning on running the mk4 gearbox eventually, maybe in a few months. I've seen a few ppl running vr6 flywheel and clutch. Is that the way to go? Will I be able to run the vr6 flywheel and clutch now on my 020 standard gearbox, until I get the car ready to move onto the mk4 box? I really don't want to buy all these clutches. I'm pretty sure it will all fit right?

I think you use a G60 flywheel and the vr6 clutch kit with the mk4 Gbox. There are lots on eBay with flywheel and clutch

George I would try and match the old seal, take the old one as a sample to CBC in sunshine off macintire rd. they might get you out of trouble.

I'm using a lightened G60 fly wheel with OEM VR6 Clutch with my 02A.

You'll also need new/modified gearbox mounts and the SEAT Hydraulic Actuator.

So I got a custom stud made up. Got the new belt, water pump, front main seal and new tensioner all on. Used a spring washer and all is nice and tight. As for the rear seal, I went to vw and ordered one in. $147!!! But after talking to the bloke for ages, turns out we are both from JHB in s.a and he was a huge fan of mk1's too, and he hooked me up at $99 cost price! Yay.

I've decided to use my crappy standard mk1 clutch and box until the end of summer when I will be doing the full 02j?? Gearbox from the mk4 gti. That way I can do more research on what I need and want. Hopefully if I drive normally then I shouldn't have too much issues from my mk1 clutch.

Should have the motor in maybe tomorrow pending the seal? Stay tuned.

Awesome, can't wait George I think once it's all done we should attend some calder meets this year. Get a couple of quick dubs to show up for a shake up.

Maybe once I get the o2j box in Peter ahaha, then I'm all for it.

After searching for some metal strut tops for about a few months .... I have stumbled on a mk1 at the wreckers (thanks dubstar/Bryce). So I picked them up for a pricey $36... But had to be done. Got them home and chopped them straight away. Measured everything and clearances, I should be able to get away with 65mm extension but to be cautious I'll only be doing 50mm. So will be going to my local metal shop tomorrow for some piping after work. Might possibly get some bearings if anything local has it.

Also, was just walking around another wrecker today when I stumbled on some seats. Was not in the market for any seats at all but I just couldn't let these recaros go past me. Had a quick inspection and they are genuine. The inserts and one bolster could do with some loving, but I picked them up for a rather good price and couldn't let it slip. Was going to flip them for a profit but might keep them for the cabby. Interior should look pretty shmick once I re do it after the motors done.

Sorry for the crappy photos lately, my phones a potato

    My local has a few

    Couple of Cabbies too.

When I get my MK1 I'll probably be visiting twice a month (payday) for parts.
