Is the KR still in it?
Mum sold her property so I had to get my cars and bring them home.
First the MK1.
Safely home.
Then the Cupra (doner car). Took 3 hours of wrangling to get it on the trailer.
Lots of hassles getting a car with no suspension on a trailer.
I suppose now the MK1 is home I have no excuse not to get it back on the road.
The plan is (there's always a plan) to fit the MK2 GTi motor first (a real one, not the pissweak Aus version) and get it registered. Eventually the ABF 16v will go in.

Sold the damaged KR to Brian (GTI Imports) ages ago. The ABF from the Cupra will eventually find its way into the MK1 but for now I have a sweet 1.8 from Alex G's much modded MK2.
Getting a car that hasn't been rego'd for 10 years back on the streets will be much easier with the 1.8. Plus the 1.8 isn't standard, previous owner of the motor said his MK2 was the fastest na 4 cylinder he'd driven.

I really need to get a garage, the temps all this week won't get into double digits and most nights are below zero so no working on the car until it gets warmer.
Here's how the Golf is looking.
Splurged out on another set of wheels.
Couldn't resist.
15 x 7 and 15 x 8 with as new tyres off a MK1 in Brisbane. Courier says they are ready for pickup from the depot in Canberra.

It was warm enough yesterday to do something so I put the drivers side Recaro back in and fitted the steering wheel. It may not be much but being able to sit in the car and make vroom vroom noises does wonders for my motivation to get the car back on the road!
The seat base was so tight I tried jacking it into position.
I soon realised this is not the right approach so took the seat out, took off the base and ground back the rear right bracket that goes in the floor slider. Works properly now.
The base is great example of over engineering and weighs more than the seat. Some time in the future I'm going to build my own base which will be half the weight, be adjustable for tilt and 3 times more simple in design. It doesn't need all this crap.
All in and added my favourite wooden steering wheel. Looking good!

I need to start stripping the Cupra for all it's mechanical parts including the complete wiring loom for the Golf. I hate old electrics so having a setup from the 90's has to be heaps better than the original wiring. Plus it will make it much easier to add the 16v motor from the Cupra later on.
The strap between the Cupra and the tree was how I got the car off the trailer. Just tied it to the tree and drove off. So much easier to get off the trailer than get it on.
Cupra has it's own anti theft device.

I can't remember if I didn't get the Golf with a rear seat or put it somewhere safe. The only thing I can find in the shed is one off a Cabby, does anyone know if the rear seat will fit without having to make any brackets?
