    I agree with Paul.

When I was on my P's I got hounded and entrapped on a number of things. Bottom line, I decided to stay the hell away from the police until I got off them. There is nothing you can do to stop them from pursuing you.. Soon as I got on my full license... Never a problem again.

They're just trying to intimidate you as their backwards way of saying "Cars are dangerous. Slow down. etc etc".

I don't get bothered by the cops in my GLD, low as it is with massive wheels poking out from the guards.. Why? Because I look older than you and I'm not displaying P plates.

So you just have to be very neat and tidy and keep your nose clean. If your mate wasn't speeding i doubt they'd care anyway.

yeah just to clarify i've been on my full licence since march, it was my mate still on p's.

i guess it's just the joys of living in and around sydney CBD, and travelling some of the most patrolled roads in the area...on the way back from uni in the city there is a 2km stretch of road with 3 "safety cameras" and the other day after i passed all 3 there was a highway patrol about 50m after the last camera with a radar out lol then near home there was a "RBT"...

kinda hard to avoid getting pulled over, especially as the car is my daily, pretty loud and something out of the ordinary.

just stick it to the man!

as long as the car is neat and tidy, and legitimately roadworthy, I wouldn't stress.

Pauls right, firm but polite. Show them you know what you're talking about, and that you're a car enthusiast, not a hoon.

Stuff like no H pattern and all that is rubbish. (in vic atleast.. :S)

So what are you ment to look at the shifter while you change gears? That would mean taking yours eyes off the road.

Its an early cars so emissions doesnt mean ****. Whay are strut braces illegal? It doesnt increase the horsepower or reduce the braking power. No p-plates is just a bummer.

Id ask for the officers name, rank, number and station before things get seriouse so they know you know.

When was on red P's I had a police detective pull me over and read me the roit act after I blasted my horn and yelled a few select words at him after he nearly cleaned me up while I was doing a three point turn (I would have had enough time if he wasn't speeding). I found out later from a family friend who had been a high ranking detective for years this guy was out of his jurisdiction pulling me over and threatening to arrest me as he was only a consulting detective or something like that. I think his wife burnt the toast that morning.

H pattern is part of the road worthy in NSW. So they're technically right on that.. But gees man, that's pretty nit picky.

yeah james, strut braces are illegal in NSW too because they change the crumbling characteristics of the car in a smash (not that a MK1 has much smash-saftey built into it ahah) i knew that although i passed rego most of the bits and pieces on the car are technically illegal, but i knew i would have to get a real nit picky cop to point them out...but as my old man suggests if you pass blue slip and pay all that money to road register your car which the RTA deems "road-worthy" why do police then enforce their own rules?...

and yes, looking at the shifter to see which gear your in a must! i do it all the time when i race, 130km/h into a corner, i take my eyes off the track, double check what gear i'm meant to be selecting and then focus back on the road...real safe practice!

and he also asked me why i thought i was qualified enough to remove the rear seat from the car! ha (out from track day on the previous weekend)...ahah fun and games of owning something other than a toyota corolla hey!

Dude that's pretty poor. But luckily it sounds easy to clear those.

Everyone is right about age. There is no substitute for it.

I'm planning on getting my car engineered once it's finished for the simple ability to say look, here it is now go away.

The breather he is right, you can't vent to the atmosphere. The rear seat is ok if you revise registration to 3 door, but of there are no seatbelts in their either you could argue you were going to ikea.

Not to sound like your dad, but your mate dropped you in this by the sound of it by his actions, so you might have been ok if not for the additional attention.

    How's the clutch going?
