    77 Sedan Project

    Hey guys!!

Today I brought home an MK1 Sedan which used to be my mates. I'd been hassling him for too long, he finally decided I should fix it up so now its in my driveway waiting some TLC lol.

Im not too sure about its history, what I do know is that he has changed the engine and gearbox a while back to a 1.8 GTi with mechanical injection and a 5 speed box. He was saying the box is a "close ratio gearbox", so Im thinking there might be some numbers to identify it? This is the story so far really. Other than that, the car is pretty much stock. Its pretty rough but once the weather improves she'll be cleaned up and ready for action.

At the moment it wont start, the fuel pump relay needs to be replaced. I took a photo of it, any ideas where I can source one? I called up repco but they only do Holden and Ford stuff Also, the shocks are pretty stuffed, Id preferably like to buy some Koni adjustables but I've seen these coil over kits on eBay. Has anyone had them before, or at the very least, know their quality or if they'd even fit? COIL OVER COILOVER VW GOLF MK1 GTI ADJUST SUSPENSION | eBay

Anyway, heres some pictures of her from today, pretty stoked to say the least

And this is the relay in question!!

    Thanks in advance

P.S the photos are huge, does anyone know how to resize them?

I have those coil overs in my golf and they are great. I would get them again. The shocks are not quite as good as I would like but I have a mate in the suspension game who seems to think that he can get something to fit. They really are great though, and you couldnt make them yourself for what they are charging.

That relay is pretty standard on euro cars. Have a look at Supercheap or Autopro for one. Failing that any auto electrician should have one.

On my old GTI I bypassed the relay with a switch directly to the pump so I could have it working only when I wanted it to. Makes a great anti theft device.

And welcome to the world of MK1 ownership. Hope you're handy with a spanner.

    Cheers

ok thanks a million for that, I'll have to chase it up tomorrow!! Yeah i was contemplating just running a wire straight from the accessories to the pump, I did it in my Alfa 75 when the fuel pump relay failed haha!! Ah yes, handy with a spanner, hopefully she doesnt give me "too" much trouble right? haha!!

I got pretty excited when I saw sedan in the title, but alas, it is only a hatchback.

Welcome and get in to it!

Last time I needed a relay I picked one up from GTI Imports who had it in stock. Google them.

At least you've got a great car to start with. What are your plans long term?

Might give GTi Imports a call in the morning too, cheers!! Sorry for getting your hopes up as well, thats a terrible typo on my behalf :|

Sports Racer, to be honest, Ive had plenty of ideas and dreams for this thing for quite a while but what Im hoping to do in the long term is tastefully modify it in its original style, keep the exterior pretty much OEM (duckbill, GTi flares) with a nice stance and possibly some ATS rims (the dream). Inside, sort of the same. I want to trim the seats with a mixture of black vinyl and the tartan style GTi trim (Seat fabrics original VW Golf MK1 GTI (eBay item 250822949355 end time 19-Jun-11 18:53:48 AEST) : Vehicle Parts Accessories), and throw in some Recaros, trimmed accordingly of course (similar to these ones I had in my 75 a while back).

Engine wise, well, got no idea. I love the idea of ITBs or Webers, I have a set of 45s from one of my old Alfa's so I **may** slap them on if I get round to rebuilding this engine. Then theres always the lure of putting in a 16v or a VR6 but I dont want to compromise the handling. So many ideas, not enough money haha!! Slowly does it though, first things first is getting her running and regoed, its been a long time since its been on the road!!

You should check out the For Sale section once you have 10 posts and you will see I am selling a lot of what you are after. This sounds very exciting.
