Nice work warren! Looks good
Yep don't I feel stupid... I'm sitting there telling the guys at work how I thought the fuel pump was dead but then thought, hang on its a mechanical pump how could it really be dead. I bet the fuel line is juste blocked as no fuel is getting to the fuel filter.
Take off the hose at the fuel filter and blow air back to the petrol tank and then reconnect hose and the car starts.
Looks like I'll be driving it onto the car trailer tomorrow. Off to the mechanics for a once over and a blue slip, fingers crossed it passes easy and I can pull the plates out of storage and onto the golf. The boys are dying for me to take them for a drive in the golf.

Thanks VdubEd.
Dropped the golf off to the mechanic for a once over for blue slip, can't wait to drive it to the RTA and get it registered.
When I rocked up the mechanics there was a really nice brown 4 dr MK1. Turns out it has original 60k on the clock. It was stunning.

I picked up the Golf last night from the mechanics, passed blue slip easy. He was smashed with work so I told him not rush, hence the long wait time. Well worth it as the Golf looks awesome and drives unbelievably well.
He mentioned that 3 people asked him if it was for sale. He told them probably not as the owner just got it. I said, "money talks" as I have another project I'm keen to get into.
Planning on getting rego today/tomorrow.
Couple quick pics as I parked it and walked inside last night

I have NSW rego!!!
Sometimes no easy feat in this nanny state.
I have a question to anyone who has premium plates on their MK1, can you show me a pic of how you fitted the front plate to the car?
There are two screw holes in the centre of the raised plate section but they don't line up with the number plate.
Behind the screw holes the inner lip of the car is there so the screws can't go more than 4-5mm through.
I don't want to put any more holes in the car unless I have to.

Working on the Golf, more pics tomorrow

Spent the morning switching over the suspension. Adjusted the rear down and it's sitting real nice.
Took the family out for a run to the servo for some fuel and down to the shops. The kids love it.

I haven't been up to much on the Golf, just driving it back and forth to work and loving how it drives, the engine is really good and apart from the cheapie suspension which I'd love to replace sometime soon.
I need to replace the front drivers seat belt as it's not pulling out cleanly anymore. Comes out when the car is facing up hill but you need to pull it out slowly so it doesn't catch when sitting on a flat or down hill. So I tried to adjust the base of the seat belt thinking it just needed to be straightened for the belt to move freely but you can't adjust it because it has one bolt but a 2nd pin which stops adjustment. Unless someone can advise me otherwise?
Anyone know of a good place to buy a retractable seatbelt?
I also need a replacement speedo as mine is out and the trip meter isn't moving. Does anyone have a wreck they're parting out?

I've got speedo's mate. You could fix yours too if you want - it will be the nylon drive gear for the odometer is cracked and will be turning on the shaft. You can usually fix it easily with a drop of superglue and a soldering iron and some fine copper wire (melt the wire into the cog to reinforce the joint before its glued)
I don't know if I have a front seatbelt here at my place but you can buy brand new ones that fit for around $100.... I bought one many years ago from supercheap. I definately have some old seatbelts up at my dads house though.

Thank for the heads up on how to fix the speedo. I'll get the old man to bring over his soldering iron over tomorrow and see if I can fix it.
