4 speeds

are there different ratio's in the mk1
four speed box? what kph would you
usally get out 1st . I was getting about
80kph reving it to empty, aprox 9000 rpm
the guy who owned it before me and who had
built the engine said nine was peak and not
to there all the time. bottom end seemed
none the worse for it when i pulled it out?
wouldn't mind shorter first gear would i
have to get a 5 speed to get it?

Diesel 4 speed, or a 5 speed. 5s are heaps nicer to drive.
