Getting my new wheels ready for some paint tomorrow. Mooney Silver
Agreed! Looking at peoples build threads from the UK, US and Europe really had bought home to me that what I have is actually a very good car already. Essentially just a good paint job would make it a solid 7 out of 10.
I've a devious idea up my sleeve for upping the performance a bit without sacrificing the period originality. I have a Mk2 GTI engine, 8v K-Jet, that I'm playing around with. I don't plan on modifying the original motor though. I'll post up some more info when I'm satisfied I'm past dreaming and into reality.

Good question. First I took it back to bare metal, glass out, etc. and we repainted it in the original Schwartz Black. But unfortunately the painter cocked up the preparation and after about a month rust started coming up under the paint. Apparently due to moisture in the lines and getting trapped under the paint.
I had two choices: either push it into the ocean, or start again.
So, we took it back to metal again, media blasted and epoxy primed. After that I couldn’t bare to see the black again so went with Alpine White.
It looked decent in black.
