The car's going to be a rocket ship when you're finished.

Do it for sure. It's cast aluminium.. As long as you clean it thoroughly afterwards it will be fine. We clean go kart engine parts this way. (The head, cylinder, crank case and carburettor).

Use a scrubbing brush and tooth brush.

DON'T use dish washer powder. It'll send the surface black, as it contains too much caustic.

Oh, and I think I have a gasket here. All yours if I do.

Looking good Mik, make sure ther idle screw has a new seal on it also, old ones tend to go hard and let air bypass...

Can get them from Ben at Mk1 Autohaus.

Next thing on install is to go thru the wiring and make sure everything is getting the right sparks.

Accumalator looks to be Mk2 BTW. you can still get original ones from Germanautoparts.

    cheers,
    Grant
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

So... What are you doing with this WUR then? I'm on the hunt for a turbo model WUR, have you got a part number?

BTW: Love the thread, it is your GTI that inspired me to hold out for a Mk1 when I was ready to go with a Mk2.

    Mk1 all the way!

Still the best looking Golf of all time IMO.

Best looking Golf and also the most pure. I still love the Mk2, but I doubt very much I'll ever own one now.

I still have the photos I downloaded of your car over 2 years ago in my folder of "How a GTI should look"

What is the process to get the build certificate from the VW Museum? I'd love to know more about ours. Unfortunately the build labels in both of ours are beyond reading. ***Edit*** Never mind, I kept reading and found the answer. I'm going to have to do that.

Actually, looking at your car again now that I am more familiar with mine it's really cool to notice the little changes that have happened over the couple of years difference.
    - From little to Big lights.
    - Dash layout
    - Steering wheel
    - Interior trim (I think yours would've had Interlagos fabric from the factory?)
    - Extra trim line below the rubbing strip
    - A Pillar covers
In all these cases I think that the older version were better. Mine is one of the last cars before the Campaign Edition, which was pretty much the final "Tart-up" before the Mk2. Yours is more true to the original look.

Also funny is that we have the same weird aerial. Do you know if that is standard?

Yeah, I prefer the smaller rear lights as well. Don't forget I only have a 1600 as well.

As for the aerial, the one I first had on the car was a bit naff really, so I replaced it with one of these.

    Cheers
    Liam

Aw man... I'm going to need to get one of those aerials now. The fugly rubbery thing is hard to like even if it is OEM.

If you ever do retrim your interior and want to sell those seat covers let me know. You can still buy Interlagos fabric because it's what they still use on Golf and Polo GTIs. But the stripes fabric is impossible to come by.

Update: parts from USA landed in Au on 21st but still not yet delivered.

Another weekend goes by, making the GAD deadline harder to meet...

Don't fret Liam, she will be home soon!
