Saying good bye to Dom and his lovely mk1 with 2E in it
Waiting to board the Spirit of Tasmania
And one of the first ones off it (thank jebus - it was 2 hours late)
Morning all,
I know I have posted a build thread and some photos before but I was annoying myself and prob other people by changing my plans all the time.
I don't want to give too much away as I am constantly changing my mind on things and I think its annoying when I do that. :dontknow: I will tell you though that I will be converting to a heron motor. I would love to turbo it but I don't know if that will happen yet or not.
Anyway, shes a 1977 Golf 1 GLS Automatic. Up until last year, she was owned since new by an older gent . It was then sold to a golf nut (Ed C) near him in Hobart (Tasmania), then once again it was up for sale. Unfortunately I could not buy it at that time but my good friend Dom did, he has many a mk1 including one with a VR6 conversion thats about half way done.
He was nice enough to offer it to me first when he decided to sell it as he knew I missed out on the car the first time. My finace, as beautiful and nice as a girl can be, went out of her way to speak to Dom behind my back and buy the car for me!
Anyway, after much loving feelings later, I flew down to Tasmania and picked it up.
This is the first time I saw her... With Dom driving and smiling like a complete muppet.
And some other photos from the trip to Tasmania...
Meeting up with Benny and his very nice 8v Mk2

A couple of days after getting home, I had installed a few interior bits and bobs that I had collected and met up with Melbourne Dom.
Ollie approves of the Mk1
Heres some of my parts that I have put on, the lights are different now (sold these to Dom) and the wheels have not been mounted yet.
I need to organise tyres (165x50x15) and some 15mm (f) and 25mm (r) hubcentric spacers. hint hint
More recently, I entered the car in a small volkswagen show (VW Jamboree) where I came second in standard watercooled.. I was beaten by a new beetle with chrome wheels..............
I also purchased an old school roof rack from Dom with some goodies on it. I also borrowed some standard cheese cutter steelies (again, thanks Dom) and tryed to fit my riken turbos with 50% success.
