the left tie rod is non-adjustable from factory, but you can't buy them. you replace a worn out lefty with a right, which isadjustable. if you have lowered your car, you really should put an adjustable lefty on, so that you dont have to move the steerin wheel off centre.

I have never needed to pull the rack to do the rack end boots, but what you do need is 2 shifters... cheap ones. Cut the handle of one off about 6" long so you can move it a little way.

simply use the long one on the rack end to hold it, and the short one to unlock the locknut. you can get a bit creative with your under-car positions.

I always do this from below, with the car on jackstands.

finally, a little grease inside the new boots before you put them on is a good idea, always clamp the boot tight with a massive cable tie (unless you have the tool to do those clips) and if you're thorough, get a wheel alignment afterwards (unless you manage to do it without taking off the tie rod, just by sliding the boots on over the balljoint on the end.)

You're talking about the inner ball joint right, with the massive flat sections to fit large spanners? I'll have to buy some ****ty shifters tomorrow then.

    Thanks for that.

you can just slid them off, but this is a little bit more difficult. I'ts not too hard to remove the whole tie rod assy though. good learning curve!

Passenger side was a bitch. Doesn't have a flange bit to put a cable tie behind so I used two boots on that side because I cut one down a little bit too much.
It's all ready to go now though.

Washed it for the first time since I bought it. Paint is a bit worse from sitting for so long, need to get a buffer!
All the missing bits I have at least one of that I'll put on after paint resto/new paint in some places.

RWC and rego on monday assuming everything goes well.

What got me worried is that the bloke at Vicroads mentioned I need proof of former australian rego, which I don't have... Never rego-ed a car from scratch before.

    Looking preeeettty
Here - I'm pretty sure there is an option in the forms you fill out to say if you know of any previous regos or not... I just check the "No" box and haven't had any issues so far, but it's more than likely different in Vic...
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

looking good Jace, GL with vicroads on monday.

These are the only things you should need, even for a 'new' rego.

Proof of ownership (inc vehicle details, previous owner details etc) RWC and the form you have to fill out. it's all listed on the Vicroads website
