11/78 mk1 gls
So this is it.
My new soon-to-be daily/long term project.
MK1's have appealed to me for a while, because they just seem like such simple cars. I made a massive mistake and bought a VR6 before this, but that's another story.
I told myself that water-cooled VAG was crap, and that I'd never own anything that falls into that category again...
I think I've made a good decision.
1979 MK1 GLS
Mexico Beige
117,000k's
Poor body repairs
Nan looked after the interior
Totally original and honest
Haven't lifted the carpets yet, but I sorta have high hopes!
Service history until about 100,000k's
...but it's what's on the inside that counts, right?
It's zippy, compared to my current daily, which can be seen in the background of a few pics.
As for plans, this car will be a daily.
That said, it'll be slammed eventually, tuckin', more visually appealing, more cosy inside...
To be a little more specific:
Spot the spelling mistake.
For you guys on low res. screens, the major ones are:
*Stance - Fatten
*Get RWC/Rego
$950 netted me this and a fair few useful spares, which I'm pretty stoked on. Best money I've spent on a car so far!
Really looking forward to meeting up with the Melbourne guys, and the interstate guys too. Tim (golfworx) has had a good look at the car and gave me the ins and outs of MK1's in general, which I really appreciate.
Pretty excited about this!

WOW..... JUST ......... WOW!
body stuff can be repaired, but interior bits are very hard to find, especially when most of them have a fade pattern that doesn't match the rest of your interior, so its good you have a mint interior
also be sure to take in everything golfworx tells you about mk1's or vw's in general.... top bloke and an absolute freak when it comes to this sh*t!
nice Mercedes too BTW

I rate that interior. Nice find.

Think that is my fav colour combo on a mach1... very cool

Thanks guys.
Dom, Tim went over just about everything and told me what's what. Felt smarter after having spoken to him.
One of my spray painter mates was wasted last night, and told me we could respray it soon. I'm going to hold him to that!

VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life

Interior looks amazing. I hope for your sake that the floor pans have minimal rust!

Hi. .... Looks great. The Dash looks like it's in excellent condition. I think that's a good sign. If all the window rubbers are good you might assume it's spent a fair bit of it's life garaged which should mean that rust is minium. Enjoy
Cheers .... Geoff

Must agree with everyone, great interior!!!. I doubt you'd have any rust at the floor pans, just look at that interior. If all goes well, we should have another up n running little golf.
