    1.6 vac line help!

    Hi!
I've been searching for a while now and I cant find any decent pictures or diagrams of the vacuum lines for my 1.6 carbie golf.
Specifically the ones for the vac advance/retard distributor.
    Can anyone help me out??

I've heard theres meant to be a restrictor/one way valve at some point but i have no idea where, and I think that vacuum switch on the coolant line is supposed to do something?? but I dont know what and im sick of messing around with it, not getting anywhere anymore!

Any pictures of diagrams or where these lines are meant to go would be greatly appreciated!

There's differences between auto and manual as well as the air pump models.

    Ahh legend!
Ok couple of questions with that. Most of the emmisions stuff has been removed from this engine btw, and its manual.
Firstly, is there a difference in the black lines and gray lines? Size of thee lines maybe?
Whats the diverter valve and the anti-backfire valve?
The piece tot he top right of the distributor, is that just vacuum coming from that pipe off the intake mani?
And any idea which way the restrictor valve is meant to flow or not flow?
    Ta!

Most of that stuff you can get rid of if your engine is running smooth. I used to have just the grey line running betwen the carby and the dizzy. As the car revs higher there's more vacuum from the carby which sucks the vacuum advance which makes the spark advance to suit the higher revs.

Take the dizzy cap off and take a big suck of the grey vacuum line to see if the vacuum advance moves inside the dizzy. If the advance goes back to it's normal position when you stops sucking you don't really need the black line connected (but it can be handy sometimes).

    Cheers

Sorry im a bit confused now. I was under the impression the black line going to the dizzy (from the carbie) was for advance and the grey one (with manifold vacuum) was to retard it?

You might be right, it's been years since I've looked at a MK1 dizzy. Easy way to check is to take the dizzy cap off and suck on the grey then black line and see which one moves the mechanism inside. That will be the advance.

I've never had an unmodified petrol Golf so I'm not too familiar with the vacuum lines.

Most Golfs that come my way seem to have started life as a diesels.

I'd settle on just hooking up the vacuum for the dizzy advance and plug everything else.
