Yearly service costs $425 ??? Qld.

Quoted $425 for yearly service on my 2017.5 Urban !! local VW dealer. Car has only done 4300 kms. What else can they do besides an oil change + filter ? Which I have bought myself. Must be a rip off Geriatric owner. Any suggestions please, and prices for this service. Thanks.

Well, they also apply any applicable service campaigns and wash the car. You're just lucky they don't try to tack on a few unneeded extras like a "coolant flush", as Continental Cars does in Auckland.
I only got the first service done at a dealer because there was a very serious recall on the 2014 1.2 TSI that needed doing but even so at $400 they didn't even use the correct weight of oil.
Now I just buy an oil filter from the local dealer and ask if there are any outstanding campaigns while I'm there.

The figure of $425 is what comes up.
You could talk to the dealer about taking out the cost of the oil (if you are supplying your own VW Approved Oil 504.00/507.00).
Not sure what Oil Filter you got, but a "Ryco" one doesn't really cut it anymore...

You should find an independent with a good reputation like I did. They charged $240 using genuine VW parts and including a wheel alignment check & wheel rotation.
At 127,000km it has never been to a VW dealer and has been faultless. Warranty is due to run out in November.

The big 60,000km service with air, fuel & cabin filters and spark plugs was $657 in June 2017. In March 2018 the same 120,000km service cost $769.
The only other big service was the 105,000km timing belt, tensioner & pulley change at $985.
My 81TSI manual is still on its original brake pads & tyres - they look like lasting to 150,000km. It gets its fair share of highway driving.

Advanced Service Centre in Toowoomba. I’m willing to visit my old home town for their good service to my previous cars, a 2013 Golf & 2007 Forester. A family owned business operated by brothers who are ex workshop managers of the local VW, Audi, Subaru & Mazda dealer.
They have a huge loyal following.

I notice the VW capped price service charges are $425 for basic oil/filter service plus $68 for pollen filter & $145 for brake fluid changes every 2 years. Total of $638.

My second 30,000km service was done in Sept 2016 after only owning the car 10 months. The pollen filter & brake fluid were changed then for a total service cost of $418.

Why would anyone think of using a dealer?

It looks good in the book, and works to your advantage if out of warranty goodwill repairs are needed.
